Step Up to Creativity
The CPCC marketing department was looking to promote the Advertising and Graphic Design program to gain attendance. I worked with Laura Bankhead and Dawson Ross for this project to pursue our idea of what the program can do for a new generation of designers.

The Process
We began our research by looking into what high schools were around the greater Charlotte area and any art programs they offered. Our thought process was to find an outlet for us as college students to reach high school students that were interested in art. We were at a disadvantage because we were all working remotely at the time so we were unable to go to the schools and gather research in person. We created a survey and with permission from the schools, we sent it to high school students. With our research, we discovered that many high school students would benefit from having a mentor and being a part of a group that gave advice about their future.
Once we landed our concept of creating a mentorship program we decided to extend that relationship to design professionals as well.
High School Student ———> College Student ———> Design Professional
We began with more research on mentorships and what we as designers can use to symbolize the relationship.

For our color palette, we wanted to combine all the colors of the groups involved and blend them together to showcase the process from high school to college to professional. The first blue is the CMS blue, the center teal is from CPCC and the light teal is from AIGA Charlotte. All three come together to create the gradient that represents the flow the students will have into their careers. The gradient shows the natural path that everyone takes like the dotted line, flowing forward.
For the typography, we decided to go with a strong, bold sans serif to represent the stability and support of the Step Up to Creativity program. The thin type of the subheading is a contrasting weight that compliments the boldness of the main typeface. The two typography choices combine to create a sense of steadiness and strength.
